As we turnover the membership of the Halton-Hamilton Source Protection Committee  we have two vacancies to represent the public-at-large. 

It's time you got involved to protect the sources of your community's drinking water from contamination and overuse.  

 

Eligible candidates interested in representing the public interests at large and having interest in local watersheds and drinking water issues are invited to submit their application by Monday, June 4, 2018 to sourceprotection@hrca.on.ca or fax to (905) 854-9220.

The Halton-Hamilton Source Protection Region comprises the areas of the Halton Region and the Hamilton Region Conservation Authorities.  A Source Protection Committee was established in accordance with the Clean Water Act, 2006 and has developed a locally driven, science-based source protection plan that aims to reduce the risk of contamination and overuse of the sources of our drinking water. 

The role of the Source Protection Committee is to guide the review and updating of the source protection plan using a science-based approach and to ensure that all relevant information is being taken into account.  The Source Protection Committee is comprised of nine members plus the Chair, who act as liaisons for their sectors, and regularly attend committee and public meetings. The member composition is as follows:

  • 3 members representing municipalities
  • 2 members representing the agricultural sector
  • 1 member representing industrial/commercial sector
  • 1 member representing environmental interests
  • 2 members representing the public interest at large
